Coding a Path to Success
GRADE 2 CODING AND ROBOTICS
The Grade 2 students have been inquiring into coding and robotics! As part of their learning, students designed and created their own maps and then used coding commands to program robots to travel to different locations on the map.
This helped the students understand that coding is about giving clear, step-by-step instructions. Students had to think carefully about the path their robot needed to take and use sequencing skills to ensure their robot reached the correct destination.
Along the way, students developed important computational thinking skills, including:
Sequencing: putting instructions in the correct order.
Problem-solving: figuring out how to navigate obstacles and reach a target.
Debugging: identifying and fixing mistakes when the robot did not follow the intended path.
Critical thinking: planning efficient routes and testing different solutions.
Through coding and robotics activities like this, students are building valuable skills that encourage logical thinking, creativity, and resilience skills that will support them both in and out of the classroom.
